priorities in action

Climbing serves a lot of important purposes in my life and has helped me through some really tough times.

It keeps me moving when I just want to sink into the couch (although it is also important to indulge in potato days).

It surrounds me with friends and a community that care about me when I might otherwise isolate.

It gets me outside into the fresh air when I get caught up in the stresses of every day life.

Last week, we talked through the final piece of the Jar of Climbing, so today I figured I would share some of my Jar to tie it all together.

Remember:

Priorities = rocks
Auxiliaries = pebbles
Accessories = sand

My priorities are currently focused around:

1. movement

For me, movement is medicine and climbing movement is what I most enjoy. Making sure I spend time on the wall 3-4 times each week is a big priority.

2. trying hard

Trying hard is one of my favorite things to do. The concentrated effort forces me to focus on the task at hand and nothing else.

Exerting myself and feeling like I'm going all in gives me a ton of satisfaction. Projecting boulders as well as heavy lifting accomplish this for me.

3. time management

My life currently has a lot of moving pieces, and short & sweet sessions are necessary. High intensity, low volume workouts such as max hangs and 3x5 rep schemes do the trick.
