maximize your learning on the wall
Hey there! I'm really excited to share something new with you..
I've made my first ever vlog style video on YouTube.
In this video, I take you through my process of working through what I call a "skill/learning boulder". This is an exercise that I give my clients so they can practice getting creative, exploring movement possibilities, and working to find solutions.
Check it out below:
Let me know how you liked this video! If it seems helpful for many people, I'll make some more.
Here are the written details of the workout from the video:
Boulder Learning Workout
Instructions:
Choose a "skill/learning" boulder on a fairly vertical angle, preferably a climb that is new or that you haven't tried a ton before.
This is a boulder that is around 2 grades below your project level - we are looking for something that takes more than a couple of tries, but not something that will turn into a huge project.
This climb should have some level of complexity to it - a tricky sequence, interesting body positions, and/or moves that require learning (ex: coordination moves).
Spend ~20-30 minutes on 1 boulder, or ~10-15 minutes on 2 different boulders.
Answer these questions:
Before getting on the climb:
1. What information do I have about this climb (ex: point out the feet, your expected hand sequence, etc.)?
Between each attempt:
2. What new information did I learn from my previous attempt?
3. What information am I still lacking?
4. What is my plan for my next attempt to get more information?
Give this workout a try and let me know what you think!
